She Built This City: Maternity Leave Symposium
About
A couple of weeks ago, attending the Maternity Leave Symposium hosted by She Built This City proved to be an enlightening experience. The event featured a panel of four incredibly knowledgeable women, each bringing unique expertise to the table, representing human resources in construction, the U.S. Department of Labor, the NC Justice Center, and the Women and Girls Research Alliance at UNCC.
One of the key points of the panel and day was the critical importance of paid parental leave. The discussion revealed that roughly 11% of construction companies provide access to paid family leave compared to the national average of 20%. Learning that Samet does provide paid parental leave was particularly inspiring and something to take pride in. The panel emphasized that parental leave fosters stronger employee commitment and plays a vital role in preventing infant mortality.
The opportunity to attend this event and gain valuable insights was truly appreciated. Attached are the materials received during the symposium, including examples of statistics shared and a plan on how to effectively communicate with your team about your parental leave timeline.
