Annual Women in Architecture BreakfastLast week, Associates, Kassidy Barrans, Bethany Hartman, and Kristen Proctor had the opportunity to represent Samet and our Women at Work ERG at the AIA (American Institute of Architects) Triangle’s 2nd Annual Women in Architecture Breakfast in Cary, NC. They heard about career lessons from a panel of accomplished women as they talked about the importance of building your network of peers, mentors, and industry experts. Following the panel discussions, they participated in two rounds of breakout sessions with each table featuring a leader in the architectural industry. There were multiple topics to choose from such as the balancing act, advocacy and activism, career growth, and leadership.

A few key takeaways included: critical feedback is imperative to your growth; it’s not about being the best in the world, but for the world; a crowded table is an ideal table; if you want to be in leadership, ask for a place at the table, don’t wait for it; communicate as much as possible; being clear is kind, being unclear is unkind.

The value of networking and fostering relationships is a key component in growing your skill set and being able to advance in your career within Samet. All three Associates felt that this was an impactful event that contained many great insights.  We’re looking forward to continuing to strategically grow our presence with local associations that have a positive impact on our industry relationships, and this event was another step forward in that mission.
