Investing in the Future, One Shed at a Time
About
This week, I have the honor of representing Raleigh Samet at the 2025 S.H.E.D. Building Competition, where high school students from across the Greensboro region are putting their skills, heart, and teamwork to the test by constructing sheds.
This isn’t just a competition—it’s a meaningful investment in the future of our industry. These students are tomorrow’s builders, project managers, estimators, and leaders. As a Team Partner, I’m here not to build—but to mentor. To show them what safety, quality, planning, and pride in your craft truly look like on the jobsite.
I was invited to participate in this incredible event by Clarence Satchell, whose passion for these students is unmatched. Watching him interact with them—encouraging, guiding, and championing their success—is a masterclass in mentorship. Clarence doesn’t just believe in these kids—he sees them, and because of that, they see themselves differently too. He’s amazing, and I’m grateful to stand alongside him in this work.
What makes this experience even more special is that our assigned student team is made up of almost all young women—and they are crushing it. As a member of Samet’s Women@Work (W@W) leadership, it’s incredibly inspiring to witness this level of confidence and capability at such an early stage. Representation matters, and today proves the future of construction absolutely includes—and needs—more women.
Watching them work reminds me why I love what we do at Samet. We build more than structures—we build people, careers, and community.
A big thank you to Connect for Success NC for leading this initiative, and to all the teachers, sponsors, and volunteers who make it possible.
Let’s keep showing up and investing in the next generation of builders!
