DEI Corner Spotlights Clarence Satchell

About

We had the distinct opportunity to speak with Clarence and his thoughts on diversity in the workplace, BHM, and Valentine’s Day! Here’s what he had to say (and you do not want to miss the video below!).

Where are you from? Dayton Ohio is where I was born and raised. Just recently moved back to Greensboro by way of Savannah GA.

Why is diversity in the workplace important to you? I believe that Diversity in the workplace creates opportunity, creativity, and encourages inclusive competition that can be channeled into organizational success.

What does Black History Month mean to you and how do you celebrate it? I personally celebrate and appreciate black history every month, so I do not typically put much emphasis on the recognized month of the year. I believe that it is great to bring awareness to some of the inventions, success stories, and historical moments of Black history and welcome the celebrations and appreciations as they come!

You and your wife went to A&T University and are contributing authors to The HBCU Experience – The NC A&T State University 4th Edition. What is your story and what motivated you both to share your story? Our story was about our love, experiences, and journey while at A&T. I proposed to my wife at GHOE, and it went viral allowing the world to get a glimpse of the real Drumline Love Story at The Real A&T!! Ultimately A&T taught us a lot about code switching, leadership, friendship, and cultural awareness. We found love in each other through friendship and have continued to dance and play to each other’s beat. Check out the video: https://youtu.be/_9uT2Ih7ZxA

Since we are on the topic of love and Valentine’s Day was last week, did you plan something special with your wife? So, for Valentine’s Day I made a nice dinner with ribeye’s, lobster, butternut squash, creamed potatoes and green beans. Topped it off with a nice red wine and some patron 😜! Next week we are heading to Gatlinburg with a few couples and enjoying some time together.

Is there anything else you’d like to share? Find creative ways to understand and/or level with people before judging or writing them off. Everyone deserves a shot, not everyone makes it. Stop wasting time with dead weight and accelerate those who want to win through action!
